Caps hoop one at a time, so machine time is the cost. The sweet spot starts around two dozen, where the one-time digitizing fee spreads out and per-cap pricing gets friendly — and it keeps improving from there.
Embroidery is priced by stitches, not colors. A compact left-panel logo sews fast; a wide front design, a back arc or dense 3D puff lettering all add needle time and move the number.
The blank matters. Structured truckers, snapbacks, unstructured dad hats, leather-look patch caps and beanies each cost differently — or bring your own caps and we'll stitch those.
New logos also carry a one-time digitizing fee to build the stitch file, quoted up front — pay it once and we keep the file for your reorders. Before you ask
What's the best hat for embroidery?
Structured caps with a firm front panel — think Richardson 112 truckers and Yupoong snapbacks — hold stitching cleanest, which is why they dominate custom hat orders. Unstructured dad hats embroider beautifully too with careful hooping. Beanies take a smaller design on the cuff. Tell us where the hats are headed and we'll point you to the right blank.
What is 3D puff embroidery?
A layer of foam goes down on the cap, then a dense satin stitch is run over it and the needle perforates the foam edges clean. The result is raised, sculpted lettering with real height — the classic streetwear and team-cap look. It works best with bold block letters and simple shapes; fine detail and small text belong in flat embroidery.
Can you do a small run of custom hats?
The sweet spot is 24+ caps — that's where per-cap pricing gets good, because the one-time digitizing fee spreads across the order. We can quote smaller runs, but expect a higher per-piece price at low quantities. Just need shirts in small numbers instead? Our DTF printing has no minimum.
Patch or direct embroidery — which should I pick?
Direct embroidery stitches your logo straight into the crown — the classic, most durable option. Patches (embroidered or leather-look, sewn or heat-applied) sit on top of the cap for that structured retail-merch aesthetic, and they're a strong choice on foam-front truckers. We'll mock up both on a digital proof if you're torn.
How do I wash an embroidered hat?
Spot-clean with mild soap and cold water, then air dry — that's it. Skip the washing machine, the dryer and the dishwasher-rack trick; heat and agitation are what warp crowns and fade thread. Treated right, quality embroidery outlasts the hat itself.
